Kimberley Court couple give top tips for successful relationship
An older couple living in Kimberley Court from Newquay have offered romantic advice to young couples celebrating Valentine’s Day this week.
Former rock band guitarist James Langston and wife Roe, who have been married for 44 years, said the secret to their marriage was to always love each other and be honest with each other.
Grandmother Roe, 74, who lives with 75-year-old James at Anchor’s Kimberley Court care home in Kimberley Close since July 2017, said: “Our most romantic day was our wedding day and our honeymoon which I organised.
“I booked a one-night stay in the Cotswolds which turned out to be a Bernie Inn Pub. However, we got a good steak out of it.
“James and I met at one of his gigs at the Hare and Hound in Birmingham. He was in a rock band called Thunder Lake and I was a groupie who turned up every Thursday night to see him.
“My friends took me back stage to meet him and I remember James prancing around the dressing room in his underpants!”
“Valentine’s Day is a chance to show you care for someone you love and we are still in love after 44 years of marriage.”
Roe said their marriage had been a long and happy one: “No matter what life throws at you, you must continue to love each other, be honest and open and most importantly have a sense of humour.”
James and Roe, who have four children and four grandchildren, will join their friends at Kimberley Court for a Valentine’s cocktail party on Friday (14 February).
Kimberley Court Manager Carrie Lewis said James continues to play the guitar, and has a jamming session every week with another musician who comes in. These sessions are performed at the home which other residents to enjoy.
She added the Valentine’s party was part of a packed programme of activities at the care home.
She said: “This is such an exciting event. There will be lots of fun, colour and wonderful food all made from fresh seasonal ingredients. Older people have a life time of experience when it comes to love so it’s great James and Roe can offer younger couples advice.
“The party is part of Kimberley Court’s ongoing programme of interesting activities which aim to stimulate the residents physically and mentally.
“Such events are also a great occasion for residents to socialise with friends and their families.”
