Marking the 75th anniversary of VJ Day
15 August 2020 is the 75th anniversary of VJ Day, marking both the surrender of Japan and the end of the Second World War. It is an important moment for Anchor Hanover’s residents and colleagues.
Through a programme of activity, the Royal British Legion and National Memorial Arboretum will be highlighting the forgotten history of those who served and sacrificed in the Far East and ultimately brought an end to the Second World War.
Resources to help you commemorate VJ Day from your home
There are a number of ways you can join others around the world in marking VJ Day:
- Share your story or message of thanks on the Legion’s interactive map and help ensure the contribution of those who served in the Far East is not forgotten.
- Take part in a national moment of Remembrance on Saturday 15 August. A Two Minute Silence will take place at 11am and will be the focal point of the commemorative service at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire led by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales.
- Follow the socially-distanced commemorations at the National Memorial Arboretum on BBC One.
An activity pack for adults and quiz have also been created and can be downloaded for free below
