Selkirk House care home residents bring in the Christmas cheer
Residents at Selkirk House care home in Devon recently took part in various Christmas activities to get into the holiday spirit.
The residents living at Anchor’s Selkirk House kicked off the festive season with Christmas baking and cake decorating; favourites among the residents. Other activities planned include festive quizzes, crafts, carols and Christmas themed exercise classes.
Resident Elsie Wright, 92, is excited at the range of activities Selkirk House has planned for this year. She said:
I love Christmas, especially now that I live at Selkirk House. I’ve met so many new people and made new friends which makes the holiday season very special. I really love the sing-a-longs for all the joy it gives me and the other residents.
Although current circumstances have made the lead up to Christmas unusual, the festive activities were organised by Anchor Hanover as a way of making sure that residents at Selkirk House could still enjoy this special time of year.
Selkirk House care home manager, Rachael McGarry, said:
Activities such as baking and carol singing are favourites for our residents every year. I am so happy that we can still have a very festive holiday season and create a Christmas that is as normal as possible for our residents. We are looking forward to all of the activities and have plenty of time to celebrate and reminisce about Christmases past.
Sir Gary Streeter MP has also shown his support to residents at Selkirk House by delivering a special Christmas message. Sir Gary said:
I have visited Selkirk House on a number of occasions and I know what a happy and professional atmosphere there is there. I wish all residents and staff a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
