Celebrating older people this Silver Sunday

Around the country our care homes are holding events and parties on 4 October to mark Silver Sunday - a national day celebrating older people.

Now in its eighth year, Silver Sunday aims to tackle loneliness amongst older people by asking the public to pause, think about the older people in their lives and look for ways to reach out and connect with them.

It is a day to celebrate the contribution older people make to society, a chance to spread some happiness and have some fun.

Always the first Sunday in October, this year Silver Sunday coincides with National Grandparents Day, another special day in the calendar that would usually bring people from different generations together.

Social distancing restrictions mean celebrations this year will look very different but we are all invited to do whatever we can to celebrate the older people in our communities.

Across our care homes fun activities and events are being held to ensure this special day is marked in style. Find details of the virtual get-togethers, music and dance sessions planned (as well as plenty of tasty party food and flowing drinks!)
