  • Anchor Hanover announces new £160m planned works deal

17 April 2019

Anchor Hanover announces new £160m planned works deal

Anchor Hanover, England’s largest not-for-profit provider of care and housing for older people, has appointed three leading energy, services and regeneration specialists as strategic delivery partners in a ten-year contract worth around £160 million.

Following a competitive tendering process, ENGIE regeneration Ltd,  Breyer Group PLC and Fortem Solutions Ltd have been selected to carry out a range of planned works across the country. ENGIE has been awarded contracts covering properties within northern and southern locations, with the Breyer Group securing the east and Fortem Solutions Ltd picking up the west. Each contractor will work closely with Anchor Hanover to develop, plan and deliver annual programmes of work in line with a five-year investment plan.

The scope of work will include kitchen and bathroom replacements, electrical heating replacements, internal and external repairs – including roofs, pavements and car parking; as well as replacement windows and doors among other associated works.

In an effort to better represent the views of residents, Anchor Hanover invited a cross section of its customers to join an Asset Management Resident Panel. Residents took part in evaluating the initial tender responses and joined in various competitive dialogue sessions focussed on resident care and engagement.

The panel also helped develop practical scenarios to test those bidding for the contracts to gauge their ability to resolve real-life situations, such as how complaints are handled and each contractors approach to bathroom and kitchen replacements.

Announcing the deal, Winston Williams, Anchor Hanover’s Director of Property, said: “We’re pleased to be working with three leading groups to help us deliver our Planned Asset Maintenance and Investment Programme. As a not-for-profit charitable organisation we reinvest the money we make into our retirement properties and care homes in order to provide the high-quality services our customers want and expect.”

Resident Linda Butler said: “I feel honoured to have been part of the tendering process. I thought that the Competitive Dialogue was particularly useful as the bidders were able to have a two-way conversation with residents on different scenarios and get grass level feedback on how they would react to different situations.”

The programme of works - which is scheduled to commence this month - aims to prolong and enhance the condition of Anchor Hanover’s existing housing stock. It will also support and prioritise the needs of customers, by ensuring they are living in high-quality, energy efficient and sustainable housing, within a safe environment.
