Property Surveyor

I find working in the Property and Assets team at Anchor very rewarding and engaging, I get no two days the same and feel empowered to make decisions and solve problems. The wider P&A team is a pool of knowledge within a friendly, approachable environment and you can always count on support from colleagues. The thing I like most about Anchor is definitely the empowerment to manage your workload while still being part of a supportive team. I also love the fact that Anchor are keen to offer progression opportunities and personal development plans to help your career goals take off. I also love the fact Anchor celebrate good work and share this with the rest of the business. I recently won a colleague award that was shared and celebrated for some of the work I was doing on my area. I have recently been given the opportunity to manage my current team and get some insight into the Senior Property Surveyor Role. This was a real positive experience for me with plenty of learning opportunities. I was given positive feedback and felt as though I was coached through the process rather than managed by my head of department helping me learn as I worked. Through this progress I was encouraged to leave my comfort zone that has improved my confidence and Anchor celebrated this on numerous platforms like workplace and P&A newsletter.

Asset Evaluation Surveyor

I started working at Anchor in August 2021 as a Repairs Surveyor and because of the excellent opportunities, I have been fortunate to carry out several different roles. I am currently working in the Portfolio Strategy team where we ensure we have a long-term plan and accurate information around our large property portfolio. Within a relatively short period of time, I have been promoted from a Stock condition surveyor to an Asset Evaluation Surveyor. Anchor’s rewards and benefits far outweigh any other companies I have worked for and the support and training opportunities I receive are first class. I have a young family and the company provides excellent work life balance for me to carry out my role efficiently and effectively, whilst also giving me the opportunity to spend quality time with my family. One of the most rewarding aspects of working for Anchor is being able to provide a service to elderly and vulnerable people and the pride of knowing you are making their lives better.

I have worked in Property and Assets for around eight years and in that time, things have changed quite significantly. The culture here has developed to include a kind of strategic thinking which I find really refreshing, and the support offered to colleagues has improved enormously. I’ve had the opportunity to develop my career under some really supportive guidance from my line manager and my director. I started at Anchor almost 10 years ago with no background in property. I feel so fortunate that I have been given the opportunity to develop my career and am currently pursuing my APC in order to hopefully gain accreditation as a Chartered Surveyor. One of the best things about Anchor is the people. I think the culture here is so supportive and familial, which encourages the kind of working environment which makes you want to give it your all. The work is really rewarding, and it’s always felt like everyone here knows what a positive impact we’re having on our residents’ lives.

The best thing about working for Anchor is the social purpose, knowing the work I am doing is meaningful and has a positive impact on people’s lives keeps me extra-motivated. The Property & Assets directorate is brilliant – my colleagues are supportive, from my line manager up to the Executive Committee, everyone really gives you the time of day and genuinely wants to listen to any ideas I might have. Since I joined Anchor, I have been trusted to get on with my job which is a great feeling, I know the support is there if I need it but I have the autonomy to get on with it if I don’t. I would highly recommend the organisation!
