A chef workingLed by our Chef Managers, Anchor’s care home catering team which also consists of Deputy Chef Managers and Catering Assistants, pride themselves on the quality of their catering and the range of choice available to residents daily.

All our care homes offer freshly cooked, appetising, and nutritionally balanced meals with a different seasonal choice available every day. Our professional chefs use fresh ingredients to prepare a range of delicious, wholesome meals in our care home kitchens to be enjoyed throughout the day

What are the roles, responsibilities and requirements of Anchor’s care home catering team?

Care Home Chef Manager

Key responsibilities:

Reporting into the Home Manager, our care home Chef Manager manages every aspect of catering within the home, delivering a quality catering service in line with health, safety and hygiene requirements.

  • Leading the catering team and managing performance.
  • Maintaining compliance with food hygiene and health and safety standards.
  • Controlling kitchen stock, equipment and resources within budget.

Required knowledge and experience:

  • Intermediate or level 3 food hygiene certificate with Cater craft or similar award.
  • Health and safety procedures including control of substances harmful to health (COSHH) and food safety standards.
  • Proven chef and people management experience.
  • Basic knowledge of dietary requirements for older people and the impact of food types on medication.
  • Safe use of kitchen equipment including knives.

Care Home Deputy Chef Manager 

Key responsibilities:

  • Reporting into the Chef Manager, responsibilities will include:
  • Deputising for the Chef Manager, managing every aspect of catering within the location and delivering a quality catering service.
  • Supervising the catering assistants on shift.
  • Maintaining compliance with food safety and health and safety procedures.
  • To minimise waste when preparing meals and use equipment correctly.

Required knowledge and experience:

  • Intermediate or level 3 food hygiene certificate with Cater craft or similar award.
  • Health and safety legislation including control of substances harmful to health (COSHH) and food safety standards.
  • Proven chef and people management experience.
  • Basic knowledge of dietary requirements relating to older people.
  • Safe use of kitchen equipment including knives.

Care Home Catering Assistant

Key responsibilities:

  • Reporting into the Chef Manager, responsibilities of our care home Catering Assistants include:
  • Delivering a quality catering service in line with health, safety and hygiene requirements.
  • Compliance with food safely hygiene and health and safety procedures.
  • Minimising wastage when preparing meals and using equipment correctly.
  • Escalating concerns and issues.

Required knowledge and experience:

  • Level 2 food safety certificate.
  • Health and safety procedures including control of substances harmful to health (COSHH)
  • Previous catering experience with knowledge of basic food safety and safe use of knives and kitchen equipment.
  • Experience of working with older people
