Volunteer with us

By volunteering with Anchor, a little of your time will make a big difference.

We’re always looking for friendly, approachable people to spend time with our customers. Whatever your background, interests and experience, we’ll find the right opportunity for you.

What will I be doing as a volunteer?

Every volunteering opportunity is different, but in essence each is about making friends, sharing hobbies/interests, and creating new experiences.

Our care home and housing customers come from all walks of life and we’ll aim to pair you with someone who shares similar interests to you or who could benefit from your skills and knowledge.

At the most basic level, you could just spend time together doing things you both enjoy.

At the other end of the scale, you could help to deliver tailored activities in our care homes that are designed to help someone living with dementia.

We also have customers who aren’t fluent in English who would benefit hugely from being able to speak with someone in their own language.

Some of our customers need help getting out and about. Others would simply enjoy hearing about your experiences and appreciate the companionship.

Whatever you have to offer, we can help you find the right volunteering opportunity to suit your interests.

Your time commitments

We will work to find you a volunteering opportunity that suits the amount of time you have to give. All you need is lots of enthusiasm and a little planning.

Who volunteers with Anchor?

Our volunteering opportunities are open to everyone over the age of 16. We look for people who are friendly, approachable and have good people skills.

You don’t need any specialist qualifications or prior experience and we’ll give you any additional training you might need.

How volunteering could benefit you

You’ll get out of our volunteering what you put in. You’ll feel great about helping someone get the best out of life, and may gain new skills and experience.

Volunteering also looks great on your CV. Most employers will take it as a good sign that you’re willing to push yourself and develop your skills on your own time.

And if you’re thinking of working with us or in the housing/care sector in general, volunteering with Anchor is a fantastic opportunity to see what great support looks like and where you could fit in.

How do I apply to be a volunteer?

There are opportunities to volunteer at all of our care homes and many of our housing locations. You can find your local Anchor care home or housing location in the property finder below.

Once you’ve selected where you would like to volunteer please give the location manager a call or call in to see them.

They’ll arrange a time to show you around and have a chat about what you want to get out of volunteering.

Please note all applicants for our care volunteering opportunities must already hold the legal right to work in the UK.
