A group from West Hall, Anchor’s flagship luxury care home in West Byfleet, Surrey, were invited to Painshill landscape garden today to trial the new shuttle buggy. The buggy service, which is being launched on 31 May, will run on the last Sunday of each month to provide visitors with disabilities or mobility requirements with a means of transport around the Serpentine Lake.

This new pre-bookable service will give visitors who are less able the opportunity to enjoy the stunning views around the lake and see some of the follies. The shuttle buggy service will make several trips around the lake so passengers have the option of getting off to enjoy a short walk to the crystal Grotto or to sit on a bench and admire the scenery.

Lucy Brown, Wellbeing Manager at West Hall, said: “We were delighted to be asked by Painshill to trial the buggy shuttle service. Everyone has had a great time travelling in style and there was just such a lot to see throughout the wonderful grounds. Our residents benefit so much from being able to get out into the fresh air and connecting with nature and this would not have been possible for our less able residents without the buggy service, so many thanks go to Painshill and Elmbridge Borough Council.”

Painshill is delighted to be able to offer this service which has been made possible with the addition of a new buggy thanks to Community Infrastructure Levy Funding through Elmbridge Borough Council. Deputy Mayor, Councillor Tannia Shipley attended the trial run today and thought that the new buggy shuttle service was an excellent idea:

“The atmosphere in the buggy was ‘buzzing’ and the excitement was palpable," said Cllr Shipley. "It was clear that because of mobility requirements, it would have been impossible for some of the people on board to have walked such a long way, and they would not have been able to appreciate the stunning views across the beautiful lake or indeed seen the various fascinating follies. The grotto took ones breath away – the restoration is incredible and the dedication of the people involved in the work, overwhelming. The buggy is an excellent initiative and a very worthwhile use of some of the CIL money (Community Infrastructure Levy).”

The new shuttle buggy service is included in normal admission price and is run by trained volunteer/staff buggy drivers. Please pre-book by calling Painshill 01932 868113.
