A resident from Egham has been shortlisted for a Creative Champion award. May “Dolly” Rimel, who lives at Anchor’s Birchlands care home in Barley Mow Road, was nominated by fellow residents for her special skills.

Almost 300 nominations were sent in for the Happy Living Awards run by Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider. The awards were launched in August with six categories: Green Fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Creative Champion, Grandparent of the Year, Community Champion and Best Pet.

May Rimel is thrilled to be shortlisted for a Creative Champion Award. She said:  “I am absolutely amazed at being nominated!”

Wendy Clark Activities Coordinator at Birchlands, who is impressed by Dolly’s talents, said: “She is 101 years old and still paints and draws. In the summer, Dolly painted two pictures for our Art Exhibition and they were sold by auction for the care home. Her work enhances the place and brings pleasure to many people.”

A customer panel has come together to judge those shortlisted, and winners of the six categories will be announced in January 2017.
