Older people taking selfies of themselves with their carer is a novel approach to recruitment at Anchor.
A selection of photos taken by Anchor’s care home residents are being issued on social media as part of the charity’s Instagran campaign.
The campaign, which will see the photos being used on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, is part of Anchor trying to address the estimated one million shortfall of carers by 2025 who are needed to meet the increasing number of older people requiring care.
Chris Wray, Anchor’s National Recruitment Manager, said they are targeting social media channels in a bid to attract young candidates.
He said: “Social media is used heavily by young people so the aim of the campaign is to show potential candidates that older people are fun to work with and you can see in the photos that the young people and residents have such a strong connection.
“Anchor is all about putting our residents first by providing high quality person-centred care so that is why we have asked the residents to take the photos themselves.
“Some people may think that selfies are a new phenomenon but older people used to take photos this way by turning round their cameras – long before the selfie trend!”
Chris added that a wide variety of roles were up for grabs, including care assistants, handymen, deputy managers and catering staff.
He said: “We hope this campaign will attract a lot of people who might not have thought of a career in care.
“We hope that this different way of looking for candidates will help people look differently at the care sector and realise what great opportunities there are for personal development at Anchor.
“We will provide all the training candidates need so they don’t need any experience. But what is important is that they have empathy for older people and want to provide top quality care.”
Anchor is hoping that other people will take selfies of themselves with older relatives or friends and send them to the recruitment team using the hashtags #InstaGRAN or #InstaGRAMPS @AnchorJobs. The best photo chosen each week will win a £50 prize with a top prize being available for the best photo.
