A rescue dog from Halifax in West Yorkshire has been shortlisted for a Best Pet award. Poppy the Terrier who lives at Anchor’s Wadsworth Court was nominated by her owner, Christine Phelps, 70 years old, for being a loving companion.

Almost 300 nominations were sent in for the Happy Living Awards run by Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider. The awards were launched in August with six categories: Green Fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Extraordinary Talent, Grandparent of the Year, Community Champion and Best Pet.

Christine Phelps, who has lived at Wadsworth Court for 11 years, said: “I am so happy Poppy has been shortlisted and so will everyone who lives at Wadsworth Court. I’d like to thank Anchor for allowing me to have her as she has cheered up my life. She’s good company, I’m never lonely.

“She is a rescue dog after a life of breeding in a cellar. Now she has everything – food, warmth, freedom and love.”

A customer panel have come together to judge those shortlisted, and winners of the six categories will be announced in January 2017.For more information on Wadsworth Court please call 0800 731 2020.
