During last week’s blizzard conditions Anne Forbes, the manager of Anchor’s King James’ Court retirement housing scheme in West Street, Berwick showed ‘true grit’.

Anne answered a plea to help accommodate overnight a pregnant woman and her mother. The couple had been stranded in their car for 18 hours.

Anne said: “I was just one of many people who came to the aid of others that night. We had a spare guest room at our scheme, so I put the word out to the emergency services in case it was needed. I got a call at about 2am and was happy to help. After some homemade soup, we made them comfortable for the night.”

Anne has also come in for praise from her tenants at King James’ Court. A group of tenants were grateful that Anne obtained essentials like bread and milk during the recent storms and red alert. Margaret Britton commented how Anne had contacted local supermarkets for available stock and drove to get the suppli4es for them in the adverse weather. “This is where Anchor's real staff heroes are” she said.

Anne-Marie Trevelyan MP dropped in to King James Lodge on Friday and is seen here presenting Anne with a bouquet from Anchor thanking her for going that extra mile.
