A tenant from Reigate has been highly commended for a Silver Surfer award. Steve Woolley, 66, who lives at Anchor’s Willow Glade in Woodhatch, was nominated by Anchor’s Chief Executive Jane Ashcroft for always going the extra mile helping his neighbours with their technology skills.

Over 600 nominations were sent in for Anchor’s Happy Living Awards for those who live with Anchor who is England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider. The awards were launched in May with six categories: Green Fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Silver Surfer, Best Grandparent, Community Champion and Carer of the Year.

Steve Woolley, who has lived at Willow Glade for five years, is thrilled to be highly commended in the Silver Surfer category. He said: “I am over the moon to have been nominated by Jane Ashcroft. Just because we are of an older generation doesn’t mean we shouldn’t keep up with the latest technology – I love creating things on my computer. I like to help my neighbours too, whether it is teaching them how to use the internet or helping them with online shopping.”

Anchor’s Chief Executive Jane Ashcroft said: “After visiting Willow Glade, I felt Steve really deserved to win the Silver Surfer Award. He produces an amazing newsletter for all his neighbours at Willow Glade, beautifully presented and full of information. I also saw him using his IT skills to support other Willow Glade tenants, helping them run errands and research things online. Steve really goes out of his way to put a smile on people’s faces.”

A customer panel came together before Christmas to judge those nominated, and winners of the six categories will be announced at the end of January.
