A grandparent from Ruislip has been shortlisted for a Grandparent of the Year award. David Albert Priest, who lives at Anchor’s Barringers Court in Neats Acre, was nominated by neighbours for always putting his family first.

Almost 300 nominations were sent in for the Happy Living Awards run by Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider. The awards were launched in August with six categories: Green Fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Extraordinary Talent, Grandparent of the Year, Community Champion and Best Pet.

Mr Priest is thrilled to be shortlisted for the Grandparent of the Year Award. He said: “I am over the moon to be up for this award. I love my family; they keep me young. It gives me great pleasure when I can help them out and see smiles on their faces.”

Friend and former neighbour John MacNeill, who nominated Mr Priest for his devotion to the family, said: “David is besotted with his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

“He repairs and repaints old toys for his little ones, and for the local toy library - he is top notch. David deserves to win because of the encouragement and support he provides to the family.”

A customer panel will be coming together later this month to judge those shortlisted, and winners of the six categories will be announced in December.
