In early spring 2013, Anchor’s Castle Hall retirement property in Hull completed a free six week gentle fitness routine course sponsored by Hull City Council in partnership with Sportsability Ltd. The course was well received and residents were keen to carry on with routines and sports/games exercise sessions.
Tenants at Castle Hall worked closely with Lorraine Firth, location manager, to pull together a bid for monies from the local CCG to improve their health and wellbeing.
Following a successful presentation to over 100 residents from the East of the city, funding of £500 was received.
It was the first time the tenants had presented to a large audience. Lorraine Firth said: “I was so proud, the day was enjoyed by all and it was a fantastic opportunity to build partnerships and meet other groups.
“The tenants were able to gain contact details from local dance, cooking and healthy eating groups which they will invite to Castle Hall in the future months to share experiences and learning.”
A Russian Dance group has offered to display their skills and this offer will be the first opportunity to be taken forward.
The money will be used to fund 25 weekly sessions consisting of chair based exercises, zumba gold, dance and indoor games including: golf, ten pin bowling, new age curling, boccia and a variety of other games that are able to be delivered by Sportsability.
It is hoped that the partnerships will continue and promote health and wellbeing across other Anchor properties in the city.
