Care Home Worker of the Year Award goes to Anchor's Joyce Edwards
Anchor’s Joyce Edwards from Palmersdene care home in Jarrow, has been awarded the Care Home Worker of the Year Award last week at The Great British Care Home Awards. Joyce was praised by the judges for being a “confident carer who will challenge anyone on her residents’ behalf”.
Receiving the award Joyce said, “I was so surprised but over the moon when they said I had won.
“It was nerve wracking to go up and collect the award but I’d had a drink to calm my nerves and I was so pleased that my team were there to support me.”
Joyce was nominated for the award by Business Manager Maureen Patterson who said, “We’re so proud of Joyce, she epitomises everything you would expect from a carer.
“I nominated her because she came in to care four years ago with no preconceived ideas about things. She’s so person-centred and a real credit to everyone at Palmersdene and the rest of Anchor.
Carol Noddings, Regional Operations Director for the North East said, “We were all thrilled that Joyce represented the North East and shone through the competition. Her gentle approach and quiet and humble manner impressed the judges and they recognised the qualities in her that her colleagues and residents obviously see every day. I’m so proud she’s in my team!”
