Award-winning care manager Ann Dale took home the trophy after being named top of her class in the Great North East Care Awards.

Ann, who works at Elderwood care home in Darlington, was named regional winner in the Frontline Leaders Award at a ceremony held at the Hilton Hotel, Gateshead, on Saturday 23 November. Ann will now go forward to the national finals taking place in London in April next year.

Ann, who is pictured receiving her award from Falklands veteran Simon Weston (right), said: “It was absolutely amazing winning. I have 25 years’ experience in care and have never won an award before. I am really proud to have won and really proud to have been nominated for the award by business manager Joe Patterson.”

Ann was one of three Anchor colleagues who were finalists at the awards night. Debbie Smith and Geraldine Forster, who both work at Kirkley Lodge care home, Middlesbrough, were in the running for awards in the Home Carer Award and Dementia Carer Award categories respectively.

Regional Operations Director Carol Noddings was there on the night along with colleagues of the three finalists. She said: “More than 300 nominations were received for the regional awards, so it was a fantastic achievement to have three Anchor colleagues in the final 75 representing all of the North East.

“Debbie and Geraldine were unfortunately pipped at the post despite all the great work they do. Our last hope was Ann, so you can imagine how quickly we were on our feet when it was announced she had made the national finals. All of us were so pleased for Ann as she proudly received her award from Simon.

“It was during that evening when I looked around the table and saw first-hand the commitment, dedication and passion of our colleagues, that I said we all have it in us to get from good to great - three very special people proved it at that event.”
