This year Ridgemount care home took first place for their African inspired Christmas cake. Having enjoyed exploring Africa during the Virtual Cruise project this summer, customers at Ridgemount decided that the theme of Africa would be a fitting choice.
The cake was presented with two large scrolls, which included photographs of customers making the cake, as well as a poem written by staff, and information about why customers had come to the decision to design their cake in such a way.
Chalkmead care home, who came third, used customer Mary’s Christmas cake recipe, as Mary is a keen baker, having baked for friends and family all of her life.
Not only was Mary delighted that their cake came third, but so was her daughter, who was also present, along with customer Kit and Activity Co-ordinator Barbara.
During the cake judging, guests were entertained by singer Bertie Boater and a festively themed quiz, as well as having the opportunity to view all of the wonderful cakes on display.
Congratulations to everyone who entered this year’s competition.
