A resident from Undercliffe in Bradford has been shortlisted for a Best Neighbour award. Susan Lynch, who lives at Anchor’s Ashcroft care home in Kelvin Way, was nominated by fellow resident, Roxanne Winter, for offering support and assistance to other residents, including those in the early stages of dementia.

Almost 300 nominations were received for the 2016 Happy Living Awards run by Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider. The awards launched in September with six categories: Green-fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Creative Champion, Grandparent of the Year, Community Champion and Best Pet.

Susan Lynch said she felt very honoured to be nominated for this award and was shocked that she was picked. She said: “I befriend anyone – everyone deserves a chance and I’ll help anyone. If I win I’ll go missing and will be found out in Bradford town drinking with the lads!”

Roxanne Winter, also a resident at Ashcroft care home, said: “Susan always offers to assist other residents by getting them drinks, finding staff for them, comforting them when they are feeling upset or confused and missing family members. These people are now living a lot more independently due to the assistance and confidence Susan has given to them.”

A customer panel has come together to judge those shortlisted, and winners of the six categories will be announced in January 2017.
