Community partnership opportunities in Central England

Adrian Handley, Community Partnership Manager for Central EnglandMeet Adrian Handley, Community Partnership Manager for Central England

As Community Partnership Manager for Central England, Adrian Handley supports care home managers across his region with activities and events that aim to engage both existing customers and surrounding communities, foster strong local relationships and tackle issues such as isolation and loneliness.

Adrian is keen to hear from health and social care professionals as well as community groups across central England who would be interested in working with us and building positive local partnerships.

We recognise that there is still a stigma attached to care homes and conditions such as dementia. Adrian and his colleagues support on-going programmes of educational activities informing the public of the valuable services offered by care homes, and enable them to be a place of trust and a positive experience for both older people and their families.

Here are just a couple of examples of the positive partnerships established in Central England:

Enhanced assessments and enablement in Birmingham

Kerria Court care home works with Cross City CCG and Birmingham City Council to offer older hospital patients an enablement service incorporating an enhanced assessment outside of the hospital ward. This service aims to prevent de-skilling, improve confidence and increase independence by using new techniques that enable people to cope better, and adjust more quickly to changes caused by ill health or a medical condition. This approach and the results have featured on BBC News, Inside Housing, Sky News and been highlighted in many Conference speeches.

Corporate partnerships

Anchor can also work with groups and organisations who want to offer additional support to their members and staff. In 2014 the Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund (CTBF) launch an innovative partnership with Anchor offering access to care homes nationwide at preferential rates. The CTBF National Care Plan offers a 10% discount to CTBF beneficiaries as well as the parents of industry qualifying personnel choosing to live in an Anchor care home.

Could we work together to make a difference?
