Ten Today for a healthier tomorrow
Anchor is very excited to announce that we are piloting an innovative approach to getting older people active in partnership with Demos.
Launching in November, our new programme called ‘Ten Today’ will see daily exercise routines being broadcast via radio, podcast and YouTube video to older people in their homes around the country.
Ten Today is designed to enable older people to exercise more easily either by themselves or in groups as a communal activity. The use of technology, and low barriers to entry, make this programme an exciting opportunity to engage large numbers of inactive older people in exercise.
Ten Today was inspired by a daily exercise broadcast in Japan called ‘Radio Taiso,’ which has a huge national following. Research suggests that Radio Taiso offers the people taking it up a range of physical health benefits, including helping to promote good circulation, muscle strength and balance.
The content being aired on Ten Today is being designed and delivered by an Anchor sheltered housing resident, Terry Keene. So this really is a project created with, and designed for, older people.
Anchor retirement housing schemes around the country will be taking part in the pilot, with Ten Today Champions engaging other residents and bringing people together to enjoy the activity on a regular basis.
If you are in Bradford or Cornwall, the activity will be broadcast on the local radio (Bradford BCB, and Cornwall CHBN), if you are elsewhere in the country you will be able to play the podcast or YouTube videos via the internet on a computer, television, iPad or even mobile phone with speakers.
Watch this space to find out how Ten Today is received – we are hoping Ten Today will ensure a healthier, happier tomorrow!
