RETIREMENT VILLAGE PLANS ON DISPLAY IN LEICESTERSHIRE
Development proposals for a new retirement village in Leicestershire went on display this month (January 2008) Anchor Trust acquired the site near Sapcote, which already has planning permission for a retirement village, in 2007 and has made some changes to the original development proposals. Residents were invited to view the new proposals at public exhibitions on 18 and 19 January. The changes include the introduction of a new village centre with community facilities such as a café/bar, village hall and a health and fitness club that will be open to the wider community and not limited to older and disabled people as in the previous permission. A similar approach has been used at Denham Garden Village, Anchor’s award-winning retirement village in Buckinghamshire. The new design and layout also provides housing at a slightly lower density than originally planned. Bungalows and apartments will be grouped around attractively landscaped garden courtyards and linked to a tree-lined boulevard. The properties will eventually be for sale to people over the age of 55. Anchor Project Manager Chris Ellis said: “Since acquiring the site, we have made some improvements to the proposals and would like to share these with the community prior to submitting a revised planning application to Blaby District Council in February.” The exhibition, held over two days, was organised for all members of the local community to find out more about the proposals and to provide feedback. A dedicated hotline – 0845 602 5026 – has also been set up to answer any queries or receive any feedback. |
