START OF WORK ON DENHAM GARDEN VILLAGE

Work has begun on the £60million redevelopment of Denham Garden Village in South Buckinghamshire.

Dominic Grieve MP for Beaconsfield and Denham Garden Village residents Mr and Mrs Pruden turned the first turf at a ceremony marking the start of construction on site.

Following a period of demolition, work now commences on the first phase of development which will provide 118 new homes for the over 55's. 326 new homes will be built in total, with complementing facilities in the village centre including a café bar, shop, restaurant, leisure suite and village hall.

Mrs Sylvia Pruden and her husband Alfred, residents of Denham Garden Village for the past six years, assisted in the ground breaking. The couple previously ran The Chiltern View public house in Uxbridge for 25 years and were keen to stay in the area following their retirement.

We are all very excited by the start of work, and are very much looking forward to moving into our new home it makes us feel young again

Tony Tench, project manager for Denham Garden Village, comments:

"It's taken three years of hard work between Anchor Trust and the Licensed Victuallers National Homes to reach this point. We are delighted that the first piece of turf has been turned and we have achieved a step closer to providing a vibrant and inclusive community."

Tim Carpenter, managing director for Willmott Dixon Housing, the building contractor for Denham Garden Village said:

"This is one of our largest new projects this year and we are excited to be playing a key role in creating such an important new development for the community. During the course of the project our community relations team will be organising events to keep local people aware of progress."

Denham Garden Village is designed to suit active people aged 55 and over who will benefit from the range of lifestyle opportunities alongside care services and assistive technology. Owned and managed by Anchor Trust, the development will offer a variety of homes, from flats and bungalows to two and three bedroom cottages.
