The Alzheimer’s Society’s call for consistent high quality dementia care across the sector has been welcomed by Anchor Trust.

Speaking following the launch of the Alzheimer’s Society’s Home from home report on dementia care, Anchor Chief Executive John Belcher has called for the Government to incorporate its findings into the forthcoming National Dementia Strategy.

Dr Belcher said:

“Anchor Trust welcomes the publication of Home from home, and broadly supports its call for consistent high quality dementia care across the sector.

“In particular, we recognise the value of staff who see the person behind their dementia, and agree that a well-trained and motivated care team is the key to good dementia care.

“Anchor is already leading the way in much of the best practice which Home for Home is lobbying for: we have a dedicated dementia specialist care team which provides training and specialist advice to care staff in our care homes.

“We also share good practice across the organisation on activities designed for people with all the stages of dementia, and disseminate advice on how to plan and evaluate activity.

“Anchor now calls on the Government’s forthcoming National Dementia Strategy to take on board the findings of Home from Home, to deliver a robust programme of strategic improvements and to invest in specialist dementia care services for older people.”
