Princess Alexandra opens new Coventry development

Princess Alexandra
David and Emily Gemmell show Princess Alexandra their flat.

Being able to welcome visitors to their brand new flat is all part of the attraction of independent living for David and Emily Gemmell.

But the couple, who live at Anchor Trust’s Leofric Court in Coventry, had an extra special guest on Tuesday (6 May) when Princess Alexandra popped in for a chat.

Her Royal Highness, Anchor’s patron, visited the Gemmells’ apartment during the official opening of the scheme which combines self-contained flats with an on-site 24-hour care team.

Mr Gemmell said: "We were delighted to be able to show the princess our flat. She is a wonderful lady and very interested in what is on offer here. She had time for everyone and spoke to all the other people here too."

Anchor built and operates Leofric Court along with two other Integrated Care and Housing Schemes and two specialist dementia care homes in Coventry as part of a 25-year Private Finance Initiative with the city council.

Anchor’s Managing Director of Care Services Jane Ashcroft said: "We were delighted and honoured to be able to show Her Royal Highness how Anchor is working alongside Coventry Council to improve the lives of older people in the city."

Leofric Court is an example of Anchor’s Integrated Care and Housing (ICH) model, giving older people the independence of their own flat with the reassurance an on-site care team to provide support whenever needed.
