Willow Gardens care home in Yateley have been spending time with children in the Duckling Class at local St Michael’s Church of England School for the last term.
Over the last 6 weeks the children, as young as just 4, have been visiting the care home and enjoying lots of creative activities with the residents.
Recent research and the recent TV programme “Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds” have shown that there are many advantages to young and older people interacting and this has clearly been seen at Willow Gardens.
Suzanne Steed, Customer Relations Manager at Willow Gardens said: “This project has been a huge success for us.
“The residents have gained confidence from using their skills and patience to encourage the children to try new activities such as making delicious food including fruit kebabs and fruit and chocolate pancakes.
“At the same time the children have enjoyed helping get residents to glue, colour and paint again, things that as adults we often stop doing.
“They have all really enjoyed sharing stories with each other too. Our residents were particularly pleased to hear about the children’s recent trip to the Olympic Park in London and seeing their fantastic drawings on Tom Daley.
“We would really like to thank class teacher Mrs Evans and Head teacher Miss McCrory for their support on this project and very much look forward to seeing the children again next term.”
