New residents and visitors took a stroll around Bishopstoke Park, on Friday (12 September), to view the progress of the retirement village and the restoration works on the old Mount Manor House building.

People from across the country attended guided tours to see their new homes and observe the restoration works at the old stately home, which will house the swimming pool, Wellness Centre and Spa when the village opens in 2015.

Gwendolen Furlong, who has reserved an apartment at Bishopstoke Park, said: “I have very much enjoyed the visit. I love the trees and I can imagine what it will be like when it’s all finished. It’s so nicely designed, there is a lot of variety in the finish of the buildings and the old Mount Manor House building is lovely.”

Mrs Furlong, who currently lives in Poole and will be moving to the new retirement village with her husband Roger, went on to say: “I can really imagine myself living here now and I’m really looking forward to moving to Bishopstoke Park.”

Jackie Finch from Waltham Chase said, “My mother lives in Darlington, so when I found out Bishopstoke Park, it seemed like the perfect opportunity for her to move closer to where I live.”

Bishopstoke Park Village Adviser, Fiona Bacon said: “It’s been a lovely opportunity for people to come and visit the site and see how the build is progressing. People are getting to meet their new neighbours and with the build well on its way, everyone can now visualise what the Bishopstoke Park retirement village will look like when it’s finished.”

Bishopstoke Park will have over 210 prestigious independent and 19 assisted living apartments, giving the over 65’s the opportunity to live independently and receive care by highly trained professionals should they need it.  There will also be a 48 room care home on the site called Orchard Gardens. The village will also feature a Wellness Centre and Spa, exercise/games room, craft room, juice bar, library, restaurant, coffee shop and delicatessen/ small general store.
