Virgin Money’s Store and Lounge network have joined Anchor’s Standing Up 4 Sitting Down campaign.
Standing Up 4 Sitting Down is Anchor's national initiative aiming to improve older people's access to their local shops and high street by increasing the amount of seating available to those who need it. The campaign is calling on retailers and high streets to do their bit to improve the lives of people by providing adequate seating in stores and public spaces.
Anchor is England's largest not-for-profit provider of housing and care for older people and Virgin Money is delighted to join over 1500 retail outlets across the country taking part.
Claire Deekes, Virgin Money Head of Stores and Lounges said: “Virgin Money is very pleased to support the Stand Up 4 Sitting Down initiative. It can be very daunting for older people to visit large towns and cities without knowing where they could go to find a seat for just 5 or 10 minutes rest. Virgin Money Stores and Lounges throughout the country provide a warm and comfortable environment for anybody who just wants to give their feet a well-earned rest.”
Chief Executive of Anchor, Jane Ashcroft CBE, said: “I am absolutely thrilled that Virgin Money has agreed to back our Standing Up 4 Sitting Down campaign. Their Stores and Lounges join a growing list of retailers across the country, including Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Hotter and hundreds of independent stores. The simple act of visiting the high street is something most of us take for granted and yet many thousands of older people feel excluded - increasing isolation and loneliness. Standing Up 4 Sitting Down makes business sense for retailers and helps ensure everyone has the chance to live life to the fullest, regardless of age.”
Virgin Money has 74 stores and seven lounges located throughout the UK and Northern Ireland.
