Two tenants from Great Linford in Milton Keynes have been shortlisted for a Best Neighbour award. Dan and Carol Walter, 59 and 57 years old, who live at Anchor’s Fulwell Court in St Leger Drive, were nominated by a number of tenants for always putting their neighbours needs first.

Almost 300 nominations were received for the 2016 Happy Living Awards run by Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider. The awards launched in September with six categories: Green-fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Creative Champion, Grandparent of the Year, Community Champion and Best Pet.

Dan and Carol Walter, who have lived at Fulwell Court for almost two years, said they are shocked to be nominated. They said: “Our son was badly burnt a number of years ago. He was in hospital a number of miles away from our home and we didn’t have a car. We received a lot of support and help with transport from friends, neighbours and people in the church. We couldn’t have got through this without them.

“When you have had things like this happen in your life, it makes you care for people and we care about all the residents at Fulwell Court.”

Pauline Culnane, who was one of the Fulwell Court tenants to nominate the couple, said: “They really are the best neighbours and deserve to be nominated”.

A customer panel has come together to judge those shortlisted, and winners of the six categories will be announced in January 2017.
