A resident from Warwick has been shortlisted for a Creative Champion award. June Scott, who lives at Anchor’s Castlegate Mews in St Nicholas Church Street, was nominated by Shirley Ketley, Estate Manager, for her special knitting skills.

Almost 300 nominations were sent in for the Happy Living Awards run by Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider. The awards were launched in August with six categories: Green Fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Extraordinary Talent, Grandparent of the Year, Community Champion and Best Pet.

June Scott, who has lived at Castlegate Mews for 15 years, is thrilled to be shortlisted for the Creative Champion Award. She said: “I was very taken aback when I was told about the nomination. But I am thrilled!”

Shirley Ketley, who is impressed by June’s talents, said: “Every year, June knits around 50 teddy bears and their clothes which are then distributed by her church to children in Africa who have no possessions. She has done this for many years and most of the wool she uses she purchases herself.”

A customer panel have come together to judge those shortlisted, and winners of the six categories will be announced in January 2017.
