A resident from Buckingham Lodge care home in Buckinghamshire has been shortlisted for a Creative Champion award. Brenda Hayes was nominated by Jane Randall, Team Leader, for her special knitting skills.

Almost 200 nominations were sent in for the Happy Living Awards run by Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider. The awards were launched in August with six categories: Green Fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Extraordinary Talent, Grandparent of the Year, Community Champion and Best Pet.

Brenda Hayes, who has lived at Buckingham Lodge for 2 years, is thrilled to be shortlisted for the Creative Champion Award. She said: “I am really happy I have been nominated and short listed, I love making things and doing what I do. Hopefully this encourages others to do the same.”

Jane Randall, who is impressed by Brenda’s talents, said: I nominated Brenda for her creativity, generosity and thoughtfulness. Brenda has done so much knitting for Buckingham Lodge and other charities such as The Poppy Appeal. That is why I feel Brenda deserved to be nominated.’

A customer panel have come together to judge those shortlisted, and winners of the six categories will be announced later this year - so watch this space!
