Residents at Manor Court care home in Plymouth received a visit of sound healers Richard and Katerina Down on Monday 15 May to kick off Dementia Awareness Week.
Richard and Katerina Down are an experienced couple who host regular sessions in Plymouth through their project “Gateway to the Heart”.
Sound healing has been used for many years around the world as a therapeutic tool to tackle stress and bringing people into a state of harmony and relaxation; sometimes can also unlock memories.
Richard and Katerina filled the home with their powerful instruments such as a big gong, a didgeridoo, a harp, Tibetan bowls, European flutes and shakers. They also accompanied the music with chants from indigenous traditions.
The residents commented they felt relaxed and enjoyed spontaneously singing along to the sound of the unusual instruments.
