Tenants at Anchor’s Silverwood Court, Thornaby enjoyed a cup of coffee with friends at the Brew Monday event.
The coffee morning was put on to mark Blue Monday (January 19) which is purported to be the most depressing day of the year.
Silverwood Court’s manager Julie Crone said: “Blue Monday is the most depressing day of the year. At least one in five people are affected by depression at some point in their lives. This can be sparked by many factors; social isolation is a massive problem for older people, especially for those living alone.
“Our tenants are lucky because Silverwood Court is like a little community with many opportunities for older people and their families to socialise and have fun.
“Anchor realises that not all older people are as fortunate so we’re inviting the community along to our coffee morning to join in with us as we try to beat the winter blues and put a smile on everyone’s face”
Brew Monday is the idea of the South Tyneside Happiness and Wellbeing network that share and develop ideas in order to contribute to the improvement of mental health, happiness and wellbeing. Anchor teamed up with them as part of their on-going activities and events aimed at tackling isolation in older people.
