Silk Court care home in Bethnal Green will be opening its doors to members of the local community this week as part of a nationwide celebration of the care sector.

Anchor’s Silk Court in Ivemey Street will be participating in Care Home Open Day on Friday 16 June, along with thousands of care homes across the country.

Care Home Open Day is an annual event aimed at encouraging members of the public to see the high quality care in their local care homes.

Residents and staff at Silk Court will be holding a whole day of activities to mark Care Home Open Day that has a friendship theme this year. There will be object handling session from the British Museum, live concert and a barbecue.

The occasion will also be a chance to celebrate the good work achieved by home’s staff in the past year. Marcia Forsythe said: “We hold a host of activities throughout the year to keep residents mentally and physically stimulated. Many of the events involve bringing the outside community into the home. Over the next few weeks, Silk Court will be organising a visit of volunteers from the telegraph to decorate cupcakes with the residents on 14th June, a live stream show of Tommy the musical, with partnership with Stratford East Theatre on 17th June, and an outreach session with Tower Hamlets archive library on 21st June.

“Care Home Open Day is part of this packed activities programme. We’re really proud of what we have achieved over the last year. We wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate the fantastic life our residents have here.”
