Residents, staff and Home Manager Jagpal Singh at Heathside care home in Woking gave a very warm welcome on Remembrance Day to the Mayor and Mayoress of Woking. After observing a two minute silence, the Mayor officially opened the newly refurbished onsite shop for customers.

Funding for this refurbishment was made possible by the kind and generous donations made by customers past and present into Anchor's Legacy Funding.

Holly Manley Activities Coordinator and Lesley Harrison Receptionist at Heathside organised the event and funding, and said the care home had waited a long time to be able to make the shop into one that can help dementia customers remember past times. This is a step forward engaging customers living with dementia and bring back memories of their youth. The shop will be run by customers with the help of staff and will sell essential items such as bubble bath, sweets, biscuits and drinks.

Mr and Mrs Branagan had a tour of Heathside with Jagpal Singh, and Mrs Branagan recalled working at Heathside some 20 years ago and said how different and bright the home was now.

After all the celebrations were finished customers at Heathside where entertained with by Victor Cracknell who encouraged everyone to join in with sing-a-long of  songs from yester-year.
