Customers at the Beeches in Leatherhead, Surrey took part in watching for birds following several days of bird themed activities organised the care home’s activity co-ordinator Lisa Harrell.

Business Manager Andy Burrell said: “To get ready for the birdwatch residents made bird feeders and bird cakes, filled up the treat stations and made our very own bird nest cakes. These events are also a great occasion for residents to socialise with their families and friends.”

Customers took turns an hour at a time to watch the birds and record which varieties they saw. Resident John Allam, 80, said: “I like to birdwatch as it brings me back to my childhood.”

Fellow bird enthusiast Ron Broughton, 92, said: “I really enjoyed seeing the owl show. Seeing six different types of owl up close was amazing. It was lovely to be able to stroke them.”
