Anchor's newest care home in Aylesbury has been praised by its residents for providing high-quality care.
The 2016 Your Care Rating survey found Anchor’s Buckingham Lodge care home in Buckingham Park, Aylesbury, performed above the national average.
Your Care Rating – the country’s largest and most authoritative survey of care home residents - awarded Buckingham Lodge an overall performance rating (OPR) of 933 out of 1,000. The national average was 878 out of 1,000.
More than 20,000 residents in 963 care homes across the UK took part in the survey. Each home was given an overall score based on resident feedback across four broad themes: Staff and Care, Home Comforts, Choice and Having a Say, and Quality of Life.
Buckingham Lodge was praised by the residents, with 90 per cent saying it was a safe and secure place to live and 100 per cent agreeing that staff are sensitive to how they are feeling.
Home manager Wendy Luck said: “It’s great our residents value the care they receive here. Most of our scores across the four themes are really positive, which shows that life for our residents is happy and fulfilling.
“While we’re really pleased with our scores, we want to get even better and the survey helps us do that by giving us direct resident feedback. This also helps families see at a glance which care homes are committed to raising standards and being transparent.
“Every care home resident should be able to speak up and this is what the Your Care Rating survey does – it gives them a voice.”
76-year-old Sheila, who has lived at Buckingham Lodge since it opened in April 2015, said: “I wanted to fill out the survey because it gives us the opportunity to provide feedback on the care we receive. I like living here because the staff are very caring, the building is wonderful and there are lots of meaningful activities organised for us. My favourite activities are musical events, and anything that involves the community coming in, for example the lovely children from the primary school next door.”
All of this year’s results for every care home surveyed are displayed on the Your Care Rating website. The website also shows how homes that took part in the survey last year performed. All of this helps families who are choosing a care home for a loved one by giving them vital information on what the residents actually think of each home and the standard of care.
The survey was compiled by leading research company Ipsos MORI with input from the care home operators taking part, plus the National Care Forum and Care England. This means the survey is the most authoritative of its type, and is also the country’s largest, capturing more views of residents than any other.
Buckingham Lodge provides 24 hour residential care for older people as well as specialist dementia care for those who require it. The home also offers respite care for two to four week periods. Buckingham Lodge is part of Anchor, England's largest not-for-profit provider of housing and care for older people.
