Residents at Firth House care home, Selby have enjoyed a day riding along the canal between Selby and Chapel Haddlesey.

Residents were given the opportunity to steer the boat whilst others took the opportunity to relax and enjoy the ride along the calm waters and observe the wildlife and scenery they passed. Once moored at Chapel Haddlesey, residents enjoyed a lunch provided by the Yorkshire Waterways Museum. The museum also laid on an exhibit showing the history of the canals in the Goole and Selby area.

The Yorkshire Waterways Museum in Goole were awarded National Lottery funding enabling them to provide social opportunities for people in the local community.

Mary Fuhrmann, who has been a resident at Firth House for 8 months said: 'The trip was wonderful, it brought back memories of my dad who used to drive the barges around this area. We used to live on the barge and deliver animal feed around the area.
