Residents at Heathside care home gave a warm welcome to the Mayor and Mayoress of Woking on Remembrance Day.

After observing a one-minute silence, Mayor Tony Branagan officially opened Heathside's newly refurbished on-site shop.

Funding for this refurbishment was made by kind and generous donations by customers past and present. This is just one step implemented by Heathside care home in Woking to engage customers who are living with dementia to bring back memories of their youth, and the shop will be run by customers wih the help of staff. Activities co-ordinator Holly Manley and Receptionist Lesley Harrison organised the event and funding, said: 'We have waited a long time to be able to make our shop into one that can help dementia customers remember the past times'.

The shop will sell essential items such as bubble bath, sweets, biscuits and drinks.

Mayor Branagan had a tour of Heathside with Manager Jagpal Singh while the mayor recalled working at Heathside some 20 years ago and said how different and bright the home was now.

After the celebrations were finsihed customers at Heathside were entertained by Victor Crackhall who encouraged everyone to join in with a sing-a-long.
