A care home in Birkenhead has been praised by its residents in a national survey for the care they receive.
The results from the Your Care Rating survey found Anchor’s Heyberry House in Ashville Road performed above the national average.
Your Care Rating – the country’s largest and most authoritative survey of care home residents - received an overall performance rating (OPR) of 960 out of 1,000. The national average was 872 out of 1,000.
Now in its third year, the survey gives residents a voice, putting their care at the heart of understanding more about how well care homes perform. More than 21,000 residents in 1,034 care homes across the UK took part.
Each care home was given an overall score based on resident feedback across four broad themes: Staff and Care, Home Comforts, Choice and Having a Say, and Quality of Life.
Heyberry House was praised by the residents, scoring highly in the following: 100% said the home was a safe and secure place while all residents agreed that they were treated with kindness, dignity and respect.
Heyberry House manager Anna Harvey said: “It’s great our residents value the care they receive here. Most of our scores across the four themes are really positive, which shows that life for our residents is happy and fulfilling.
“While we’re really pleased with our scores, we obviously want to get even better and the survey helps us do that by giving us direct resident feedback.
“Families can also see at a glance which care homes are committed to raising standards and being transparent as they take part in the survey.
“Every care home resident should be able to speak up about their care and this is what the Your Care Rating survey does – it gives them a voice.”
Resident Jean Harper, age 70, who has lived at Heyberry House for 3 years, said: “I wanted to fill out the survey because it gives us residents the opportunity to provide feedback on the care we receive. I like living here because the staff are very caring and there are lots of meaningful activities organised for us. My favourite activities are occasional bingo and I particularly enjoy family nights where we can all get together for good food, good company and a laugh.”
