A Border collie from Southport has been shortlisted for a Best Pet award.

Moffatt, who lives at Anchor Court retirement housing scheme in Saxon Road, was nominated by Bob Evans for being a faithful furry friend.

Almost 300 nominations were sent in for the Happy Living Awards run by Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider. The awards were launched in August with six categories: Green Fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Extraordinary Talent, Grandparent of the Year, Community Champion and Best Pet.

Moffatt’s owner Bob Evans said: “I am over the moon that Moffatt is a finalist. She is quite the celebrity at Anchor Court, so it would make us very proud for her to win. Moffatt is 14 now, but this does not stop her wagging her tail and saying hello to everyone. She has been such a huge part of my life for 14 years, and now I am ill myself I find Moffatt even more of a companion and a comfort, helping me through dark days with her loving demeanour.”

Bob has rarely been parted from Moffatt since she was ten weeks old – during his career as a driver, they covered over 1,500 miles a week together. She has lived a very interesting life, including surviving an adder attack in 2008, but now enjoys a peaceful retirement with Bob at Anchor Court.

A customer panel will be coming together later this month to judge those shortlisted, and winners of the six categories will be announced in December.
