A Dachshund from Bristol has been shortlisted for a Best Pet award. Dash, 10, who lives at Anchor’s The Firs in Downend, was nominated by Sylvia Hardcastle for being a faithful furry friend.

Almost 300 nominations were sent in for the Happy Living Awards run by Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider. The awards were launched in August with six categories: Green Fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Extraordinary Talent, Grandparent of the Year, Community Champion and Best Pet.

Dash’s owner Sylvia Hardcastle, who has lived at The Firs for 14 years, said: “I am over the moon that Dash is a finalist – he certainly brings happy living to me and my neighbours at The Firs, so it would make me very proud to win.

“Dash and I go to the local park most days, meet other dog lovers, which is good for him and me. He comes to coffee mornings here at The Firs and is very friendly to everyone. I’ve always had a dog and think it’s keeping me going at the age of 85.”

A customer panel will be coming together later this month to judge those shortlisted, and winners of the six categories will be announced in December.
