Orchard Gardens is helping residents to keep fit by introducing regular specialist exercise classes designed for the elderly.
Staff at Anchor’s Orchard Gardens care home have organised a twice-weekly armchair exercise class intended to help residents improve their health and fitness levels. Chair exercises have been recognised to help lubricate joints, keeping them flexible and helping to increase blood circulation. The classes include work with weighted balls, flexi band exercises as well as stretches and aerobic movements from the comfort and safety of a chair.
Orchard Gardens Manager, Karen Handley said: “Eating healthily and gentle exercise means that older people can maintain mobility and boost their physical and mental well-being. This means they can continue to get the most out of life. Maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle is important to our residents as it helps to maintain independence and mobility, as well as providing a fun activity. All of our residents really enjoy taking part in the classes.”
