Orchard Gardens care home in Bishopstoke held a seminar on Saturday 11 November so that members of the public could find out more about the condition.

Mark Harrison, Dementia Specialist trainer, spoke about living and coping with dementia at the seminar which was very well received by the audience. 

Mark has been working with people living with dementia for over 25 years and has delivered seminars, training and workshops for two of the largest care groups covering the UK. As an advocate for the improved understanding of dementia, Mark participates in forums and has been a guest speaker at national events. 

The informative event covered key topics including:

  • What is Dementia?
  • the early signs of Alzheimer's
  • The brain, our memories and reality
  • Five common types of dementia
  • Distressed behaviours and coping strategies
  • Communication what to do, what not to do
  • Therapies that work

Orchard Gardens Customer Relations Manager Lisa Smirk was also on hand to talk to members of the public at the event and offer tours of the retirement village at Bishopstoke Park.
