Residents at Orchard Court in Lingfield gathered to the dance floor for the final heat of the Strictly Dancing competition last week.

Mary Shoesmoth 79, danced to the smooth tunes of Frank Sinatra with her daughter Laini Hugget, who was kitted out in dapper tails and a bow tie, while Ellen Hall, 90, and her daughter Linda Henson broke out the moves for a rock n roll number. But it was the Scottish dance performed by Vivien Manning, 83, and Orchard Court carer Craig Yound, 21, which got top marks from the judges.

Sue Strange, the activities coordinator at the home said: "The three wonderful judges all said what a wonderful evening it was and how difficult it was to choose."

The winners will now go on to compete in the regional final being held at the home on 1 & 2 October where residents from 16 other care homes in the Anchor group will be taking part. The grand final will be held at Rivolli Ballrooms, London on the 16 October.
