Older people at The Beeches in Leatherhead enjoyed a day of fundraising for the British Heart Foundation on Friday 7 February.
Staff and residents at The Beeches on Fortyfoot Road raised awareness as a part of the rock it in red heart awareness month.
Activities Coordinator Lisa Harrell said: “Residents at The Beeches really enjoyed Love your Heart Day, as they like to give back to the community. Some of the staff members wore red and donated a pound to the charity. Like all of our events there will be lots of fun, colour and wonderful food all made from fresh seasonal ingredients.
Such events are also a great occasion for residents to socialise with friends and their families”.
In the afternoon the residents and staff all took part in a big group chair exercise class which was led by The Beeches Activities Coordinator Lisa Harrell, who said “ it is very important we look after our hearts in every way, not just what we eat and do but what exercise we take part in throughout our lives. I like to keep the residents at The Beeches active and happy".
Resident Audrey Slater, 87, who has lived at The Beeches for 1 year loved seeing the staff in red. She also loves taking part in the exercise classes as it keeps her fit and healthy. She said: “It is so important to look after your heart which is why we wanted to get involved. I enjoy living here as there are always interesting activities here. It’s nice to raise money for charity and give back to the community like we did for International Older Peoples Day.”
Heart themed raffle took place and all money raised will be donated to The British Heart Foundation.
