Residents at Oakwood Grange care home in Barnsley have enjoyed a whole month of fun and engaging activities, including visits from local children and some four-legged friends.

On the 18 December the home was visited by a local Brownies group who brought with them gifts for residents and sung Christmas carols.

Care home Manager Amanda Smith said: “The children really brightened up everyone’s day and sang beautifully for us.

“We have one resident who was a school teacher and the visit was particularly enjoyable for her, she was keen to tell everyone how the visit brought back fond memories of teaching children in the past.”

On 20 December the home again enjoyed more visitors, this time 4 dementia dogs visited on the day of the home’s Christmas party.

Amanda continued: “Following on from a very successful dementia champion recognition event, the home has been visited several times by local dementia dogs.

“The dogs are such friendly creatures and the residents loved spending time with them at the Christmas party. I’m certain they will be visiting again soon as they are so popular.”
