Winifred Shirley is celebrating turning 101 on 9 March 2017 at a party held at Manor Court care home.

Centenarian Mrs Shirley will be blowing out her candles at the party held for her at Anchor’s Manor Court Care Home in Efford where she has lived for four years.

Mrs Shirley was born in Lansdune, South Lambert, London. Before she retired Mrs Shirley worked as a tailor’s apprentice where she learnt to make beautifully detailed dresses. After this Mrs Shirley worked for Barnardos as a matron.

Manor Court Manager Rachael McGarry said: “Mrs Shirley is a lovely person. She always likes to take part in Holy Communion when our local church group visits and she loves visits from local school children.

“Everyone here is very much looking forward to celebrating this special birthday with a special lady.”
