A tenant from Gillingham in Kent has been shortlisted for a Best Neighbour award. Jim Carter, 95 years old, who lives at Anchor’s Signal Court, was nominated by Alma York, Team Manager, for always putting his neighbours needs before her own.

Almost 300 nominations were received for the 2016 Happy Living Awards run by Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider. The awards launched in September with six categories: Green-fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Creative Champion, Grandparent of the Year, Community Champion and Best Pet.

Jim Carter has lived at Signal Court for 24 years. He said: “I’m very happy to be nominated. Except, I don’t think I deserve to be!”

Alma York, who nominated Jim, said: “He is 95 years old but very active and is always doing errands for his neighbours. Everyone here at Signal Court loves him for the happy and considerate person he is. When it’s someone’s birthday he even decorates their door with banners and balloons.”

A customer panel has come together to judge those shortlisted, and winners of the six categories will be announced in January 2017.
